Empowering Female Creatives

Written by Hannah Dawson, Content Executive, THREE2

As we celebrate International Women's Day 2023, it's important to highlight the significant contributions that women make to the creative industries. From film and television to advertising and design, women have been breaking barriers, shattering glass ceilings, and creating a more inclusive and diverse landscape.

The rise of women in creative industries has been slow but steady. In previous years, more females then males studied creative arts subjects at university, but a smaller proportion continued into creative careers after graduation. Although it has been a challenge for women to compete with men in a male-dominated industry, they have made great strides in recent times. Today, women are making their mark, inspiring others to do the same, and paving the way for future generations.

There is an ever-growing number of female executives, producers, directors, artists, and writers who have been the driving force behind some of the most innovative and impressive projects. They bring fresh perspectives and ideas and help to create a more diverse understanding of creativity.

Women have been at the forefront of new trends in the creative industry, including the rise of storytelling across different platforms. From social media to virtual reality, women are leading the way in the development and exploration of new mediums for creative expression.

Despite all the progress made by women in creative industries, there is still a long way to go. The gender wage gap remains a persistent issue as well as women's representation in certain creative fields.

Today is an opportunity to appreciate women’s achievements and acknowledge the hurdles they continue to face, but it shouldn’t stop there. We must continue to support and encourage the women around us. Amplify their voices, invest in their work, and push for greater diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the industry. By doing so, we create a brighter future for women around the world, while also elevating creative output to new heights.

“From our perspective at THREE2, for creativity to truly thrive, it’s imperative that an inclusive environment is nurtured across all areas of business. We need diverse opinions, perspectives, and experiences to produce great work that speaks to a global audience. We are so well connected through all forms of media so the landscape in which these outputs are designed must reflect this. In our industry, progress is being made, but there is work to be done. As a young business, we feel we have an opportunity and responsibility to help shape the creative landscape of the future and stand alongside and empower all women as we strive towards this collective goal.”
